WANT TO AVOID WAITING IN LINE AT THE OPEN HOUSE? Print out your property specific flood map before the meeting by contacting Karen Hodges at Karen.firstname.lastname@example.org or 509.962.7610 WHO IS MAKING THESE UPDATES AND WHY? Kittitas County and the State of Washington have been working closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to identify the most specific information about the rivers and creeks located throughout Kittitas County. Flood hazard zones are then updated using this more precise topographical and engineering data. The better information that FEMA is able to gather, the more accurate flood maps will be produced. Our goal is to gather input and perspective from a city, county, tribe, and statewide level to create these tools. The desired outcomes from this process are maps that will be used by community officials for future development, land use mapping, and hazard mitigation planning. WANT MORE INFORMATION? The revised maps for Kittitas County will be available for public review and comment until December or January (more information on these dates will be available at the meeting). Property owners are encouraged to review the revised flood map to identify their property’s flood risk. This information will empower property owners to make more informed decisions about their safety and finances. You can view a flood map comparison here: https://bit.ly/2ujG0O3. The process for providing comments or requesting a map change will be discussed at the September 19th Open House. Comments can include corrections or clarifications pertaining to misspellings, labeling, and/or missing information on flood maps. More information is available by calling the FEMA Map Information Exchange, (877) 336-2627, or by visiting FEMA’s Flood Map Service Center, at msc.fema.gov.
