At Manastash Ridge Navigation Race, you’ll get a detailed topographic map of Manastash Ridge showing the locations of dozens of checkpoints, then use the map and your compass to visit as many as you can in your choice of 2 hours, 4 hours, or 8 hours. Checkpoints are marked with orange and white orienteering markers and placed on natural and manmade features of the terrain, including both locations accessible by trail and locations that are off-trail. The area has mostly open grass and shrub land with some stands of forest on the north slope of the ridge and in some valleys. Old roads and flowy single-track trails span much of the area.  Mount Rainier is visible from the start, and the top of the ridge has sweeping views of Kittitas Valley and Ellensburg.  Parking, start, and finish are at 13800 Umptanum Road, on the south side of Manastash Ridge.  Drinking water is available at some locations throughout the course, and food, drink, and prizes in many categories await at the finish.  Fun family or group activity.  7:45am event-day registration and check-in opens; 8am Free introduction to navigation; 9am map handout; 10am start.  Prices $16-63 pre-registration by 5/27; $20-70 day-of-event, depending upon age and time limit.
