Kittitas County and the Cities of Ellensburg Cle Elum and the Town of South Cle Elum are participating in a multi-year process to develop a regional Shoreline Master Program (SMP) and the adoption of an independent SMP for each jurisdiction. The Washington State Shoreline Management Act and its associated rules require local governments to develop and administer shoreline master programs that include policies and regulations that govern designated shorelines within their respective jurisdictions. The Kittitas County SMP was adopted in 1975 and has been relied on by Kittitas County and the Cities/Town for shoreline regulations. The Shoreline Management Act requires Kittitas County and the Cities/Town to update and adopt shoreline master programs that meet current state regulations.Kittitas County and the Cities of Ellensburg Cle Elum and the Town of South Cle Elum recognize that a successful regional SMP update process depends on the participation of the public. To that end the County and the Cities and Town will jointly host a public open house on January 29 2014 where Draft Shoreline Master Program documents created for each jurisdiction will be available for public review and comment.
