Veritas Medieval Faire will make its debut on Saturday, May 28th at Dusty’s Nursery & Company at 1116 East Mountain View in Ellensburg. The event will run from 11am-6pm, with 6pm-8pm featuring a banquet of period food and exclusive entertainment. Only 20 tickets will be sold for the banquet.
Veritas Medieval Faire will feature fairy princesses, magicians, face painting, musicians, crafts, games, hands-on activities, merchants and a tournament of armoured knights! There will be a mini- trebuchet, archery and demonstrations in a full day of programming which includes freshly prepared food in a festive, intimate setting which is both fun and educational.
Veritas Medieval Faire is a production of non-profit organization Kron. Headquartered in Ellensburg, Kron’s programming includes Knights of Veritas and its sister program Veritas Swordplay Academy, both of which will have a strong presence at the event. Renowned throughout the Pacific Northwest, Knights of Veritas is well known for its school and library programs; Veritas Swordplay Academy is the historical martial arts component of the organization, with students and instructors alike featured in demonstration fights and an armoured tournament. The competitors will be using documented period-correct techniques with traditional medieval weapons.
“Period-correct fighting is quite a bit different than what people are accustomed to seeing in movies and television, and even at some similar types of events,” said Veritas Medieval Faire Director Eric Slyter.
There will be a number of modern touches throughout the event to cater to the expectations of a modern audience. Entertainers and merchants will be coming from as far away as Spokane and Seattle, though numerous local merchants will also be featured. Local sponsors include Iron Horse Brewery (who will be serving from 12-8pm), AAA Wildcat Storage, Butterfly Sundries, Grocery Outlet, Knudson’s Lumber and Safeway.
All-ages, family friendly, and both entertaining and informative, general admission for the event is $9 for adults, $7 for ages 6-17, and $2 for age 5 and under. Coupons, which are good for discounted general admission and free admission for kids, are available at Dusty’s Nursery, Clymer Museum and Iron Horse.
