TAKE NOTE (4/5/24):PRESCRIBED FIRE & TRAIL CLOSURES: UKC Fuels is planning prescribed burn operations on the Cle Elum Ridge above Roslyn starting as early as Wednesday April 10th with a burn program continuing over the next several weeks as weather and fire conditions allow. This notification is an FYI and more detailed information and specific trail closures will be announced depending on the burn units selected. It is likely that one of the first units will be near the start of the Rat Pack trial resulting in the closure of Rat Pack and the Cle Elum Ridge Road east of the start (see map pictured) for an least a week or two. An additional burn unit might be "Pauls Trail" which would burn our from Paul's trail to the Ridge Road for the length of the trail - this would result in a closure of Paul's Trail and the Ridge Road. Again - concise details will be posted closer to burn operations. For public and firefighter safety please obey all trail closures. Prescribed fire on the ridge will create smoke impacts in Roslyn and Cle Elum especially in the early morning hours. If you are sensitive to smoke please close your windows during and after burn operations. Prescribed Fire is an important part of the Cle Elum Ridge Fuels Reduction Project and is designed to mitigate the threat wildfire poses to the Cle Elum valley. Thank you. ... See MoreSee Less

To all who have enjoyed the WSDOT posts with Mike's clever illustrations, it's time to send him off with a fond farewell. We'll see what the next chapter will hold.Eleven years has gone by REALLY fast. When I started doing social media here, I didn't really know what I was doing. I just tried to present info in a way I'd want to get it. Fortunately, it resonated with many of you, and I'm so thankful for that.Since then, I've worked to try to give a voice to our agency, to show that we're real people doing the best we can with what we've got. It hasn't always been easy but I've always appreciated how engaged our followers are on social media. As I wrap things up, I remember long nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays trying to bring you our stories in as creative & informative a way as we can. Sometimes the stories have been really hard to tell, and sometimes a simple drawing will do.Along the way, I've been so lucky to be part of such an amazing team of communicators working to get you information and content to help you get where you need to go. They truly are the best in the business and I'm really going to miss them.I'm also REALLY going to miss you. You haven't always liked what I've had to say - while I love them, if I never have to do another roundabouts Facebook post, I will be overjoyed - but I've always appreciated the conversations we've had.So with that, I hand things off to my trusty No. 2, now our acting No. 1! She and the rest of the team are going to do an amazing job pushing our social media forward and I can't wait to see what they come up with. They're going to do great!Thank you so much for following along all these years, sharing your thoughts, feedback and ideas. It's been an honor to be a small part of your world these past 11 years and I wish you all the best. So long, friends! ... See MoreSee Less
