About the Show:

Step into the whimsical world of Ha Ha Da Vinci, an award-winning solo odyssey created and performed by the “impossible to resist” Phina Pipia. This genre-defying production blends music, magic, and physical theater into a captivating experience that has charmed audiences across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Equal parts theatrical adventure and “TED Talk gone wrong,” the show follows a curious graduate student who discovers a long-lost time machine built by Leonardo da Vinci and his mysterious collaborator, the magician-mathematician Luca Pacioli. When she is accidentally zapped back to the Renaissance, she must unravel a 15th-century mystery using only her wits—and a heavy dose of creativity—to find her way back to the present.

The stage becomes a playground of the delightfully unexpected, where everyday objects take on extraordinary lives. From a tuba that doubles as a glowing lantern to a bedspread that transforms into a musical instrument, Pipia’s inventive set design mirrors the genius of Da Vinci himself. Audiences are treated to a kaleidoscopic display of Pipia’s multi-faceted talents: she sings original folk tunes with a “sublime” voice, performs mind-bending sleight-of-hand magic, and even plays the floor piano à la Big while sporting a sousaphone. Guided by the crackling voice of Da Vinci broadcasting through a retro radio, the performance weaves together shadow puppetry, interpretive dance, and historical intrigue to create a “strangely mesmerizing” atmosphere.

Hailed by The New York Times as “terrific” and a multi-city Fringe Festival favorite, Ha Ha Da Vinci is more than just a comedy—it is a heartwarming exploration of the drive to create and the beauty of “normal times.” Whether you are a fan of historical puzzles, whimsical storytelling, or virtuosic musical performances, this show offers a buoyant and dreamy escape that leaves audiences of all ages feeling that anything is possible. It is a rare, unclassifiable theatrical gem that celebrates the spirit of invention and the joy of finding inspiration in the most unlikely places.
