Superior Court Judge Frances P. Chmelewski
Kittitas County, WA – 06/11/2018 – Announcement from the Kittitas County Clerk: “Announcing the sad news of her passing.
It is with great sorrow that the Kittitas County Superior Court announces that Judge Frances P. Chmelewski passed away on June 9, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Judge Chmelewski loved people, the law, and serving others in any way possible.  An attorney since 1989, “Judge Fran” left her mark on our community as a Judge of the Superior Court of Washington for Kittitas County from December, 2011 through January, 2017.  Judge Chmelewski personified compassion, wisdom, and honor.  She was loved by many during her life, and the memory of her spirit and tenacity will  always grace us as we soldier on.  Our thoughts and prayers abide with her husband Mark and son Stephen.”

Kittitas County, WA – 06/11/2018 – In a press release today, “The Board of County Commissioner hereby directs that Washington State and United States flags at all County facilities be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in memory of former Superior Court Judge Frances P. Chmelewski who passed away over the weekend.”

Frances was first appointed Superior Court Judge in November 2011 by then Governor Christine Gregoire.  She won election to the position in November 2012 and served through 2016.  Judge Chmelewski was a dedicated public servant and her loss will be felt by the entire County.

Kittitas County Commissioners ask county offices to, “Please notify your staff and all offices and facilities around the County.”

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business on Friday, June 15, 2018.
