Biochar! A Special Presentation

The Kittitas Chapter of the Washington Farm Forest Association is sponsoring a free presentation:

“Biochar: Integrating Forest Health, Climate Change & Carbon Management”
presented by Tom and Gina McCoy

Come learn about:

· The
importance of biochar for protecting dry forests and the climate;

· How
low-to-no value biomass is made into biochar and can be used as a soil amendment, to repair environmental damage, and as a renewable energy source; and

· Biochar
production and the economic opportunity.

When: Saturday June 15th from 12:30 – 2:30 at the Upper
Kittitas Senior Center. Coffee and water provided. Everyone is welcome!

Who: Tom McCoy has a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and earned
a master’s degree in Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management. He worked 10 years for the Yakama Nation as the Watershed Restoration Project Manager addressing landscape level issues negatively affecting anadromous fish and later for 6 years he was the Methow
Wildlife Area Manager for WDFW. He has been a consulting ecologist and has served as an expert witness on wildfire and natural resource damage. Gina McCoy has bachelor’s degrees in civil and agricultural engineering and later earned a master’s degree in Forest
Hydrology. She worked 7 years for the Yakama Nation as a hydrologist, then later 13 years for WDFW as an environmental engineer. She and Tom have created a non-profit dedicated to increasing the pace and scale of forest health restoration.
