Local photographer Karen Watland captured these videos of a large herd of elk crossing the Yakima River (in one version viewers can also hear the sounds of the elk calling as they cross). The videos have gone viral, attracting views far and wide. Both videos shared here with Tribune readers with Watland’s permission. “Watching the elk migration today as they headed lower, crossing the Yakima river. What a beautiful thing to experience. It’s a pleasure to share it with you,” Watland said. “The sounds the elk were making on their migration made the vision of it even more spectacular. Saw this today [Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016] on my drive to Ellensburg Washington.”
